”The band cites a wide variety of influences, including David Bowie, Talking Heads and Franz Ferdinand. The opener, though, feels like it could have been done by No Doubt, if they locked their producer in the closet and were allowed to pull off some of the polish. “Ordinary Life” is a gem, channeling pop and punk sensibilities in its alternating strummed and riff-y guitar figures. There’s just enough reverb for a garage feel, just enough keyboards for a little pop polish and just enough casualness in Gomez’s vocals to give the needed touch of swagger. The Go-Go’s, in their prime, would have loved to have this on their album (and, let’s be fair, having a K. Valentine as your bass player doesn’t hurt the comparison).”
